How to Get a Credit Report

You have the right to obtain a copy of your credit report at any time. It is suggested that you review your report at least once a year to ensure completeness and accuracy.

Be prepared to provide the following information when obtaining a credit report:

  1. Full name (including Jr., Sr., and III)
  2. Date of birth
  3. Social Security Number
  4. Current and previous address(s) for the last 5 years
  5. Daytime phone number
  6. Photocopy of letter from the creditor denying you credit (if applicable)
  7. Signature (if applying via mail)
  8. Photocopy of your driver's license or other picture ID (if you apply via mail)

Free Credit Reports

You may obtain a free credit report if you have been denied credit within the last 60 days.

The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions (FACT) Act entitles all consumers to a free credit report once a year from all three major credit reporting agencies which have established a centralized source for accepting the requests.
